Gaiospino

Photo of the label of Gaiospino

Gaiospino is Fattoria Coroncino's flagship Verdicchio, sourced from historic vines in the Contrada Spescia vineyard in Cupramontana, on sloping land with calcareous marl soil. Always the result of a careful selection of grapes harvested at full ripeness, it ages on the lees for over a year, acquiring a structure and agility that stands the test of time. Depending on the vintage, it may include a small amount of oak fermentation to enhance its character

Denominazione

DOCG Castelli di Jesi Verdicchio Riserva Classico

A wine that stands out for its "crystalline purity", free from forcing or aromatic condiments

Altitude & Exposition

350 m a.s.l, with North-West exposure

soil

Calcareous marl, once used as a gypsum quarry. It contains significant percentages of calcium carbonate mixed with clay, providing cohesion but also friability to the soil, combined with a steep slope

age of the vines

Planted in 1979 (2 hectares) and 1990 (1 hectares)

vines management

No tillage since 1988, spontaneous grass covercrop with manual management under the rows. Manual pruning in single and double Guyot

Vinification & aging

Grapes arrival

Soft pressing and static decantation of the must

Fermentation

Spontaneous with indigenous yeasts and simple temperature control

Maturation

In concrete tanks and in French oak barrels of 500 l, on the fine lees with minimal rackings

blend

Although Gaiospino is made exclusively from a single vineyard, an organoleptic selection is performed to determine the percentage of wood in the blend, which varies from 5 to 20% depending on the vintage, sometimes completely absent (as in 2016) to preserve the purity of the fruit

cluster of Verdicchio

Organoleptic profile

The nose opens with mineral and ethereal sensations of slightly smoky spices and fresh fruit, then remains austere and elegant.

On the palate, the entry is engaging and agile, with elegant notes of fruit and spices. The finish, salty and persistent, fades into an intriguing herbaceous epilogue

temper

Exceptional balance between body and agility, with a marked texture and exuberance

Aging potential: 10 years and beyond

Formats: Standard (0.75 l), Magnum (1.5 l) and Jeroboam (3.0 l)

pairings

Extremely versatile: excellent with fish, but it also elegantly complements white meat and even red meat
