Il Coroncino

Photo of the label of Il Coroncino

Coroncino is our "prototype" Verdicchio: it encloses the power of the grape variety in a luminous tension and a salty echo of the clay soils overlooking the sea

Denominazione

DOC Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore

Here an evocative phrase will be perfect...

Terroir & vineyard

Il Coroncino is primarily an expression of our vineyards in Contrada Coroncino (Staffolo), integrating grapes from the Cerrete vineyard (San Paolo di Jesi) and the Mimosa vineyard (Cupramontana)

Altitude & Exposition

Between 200 and 420 m a.s.l., with expositions partly North-East and partly South-West

soil

The soils of the vineyards for Il Coroncino have predominantly very high percentages of clay, with layers of blue clay at a depth of 40 cm, giving the vineyard a very rich substrate capable of storing water resources, yet highly mobile in structure

age of the vines

Plant ages vary from 1975 to 2021

vines management

No fertilization, no soil tillage, spontaneous grass covercrop with approximately two grass cutting per year. Manual pruning in double and single Guyot, manual management under the rows

Vinification & aging

Grapes arrival

Meticulous check of the clusters during harvest, with gentle pressing and static decantation of the must

Fermentation

Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in steel and concrete tanks and basic temperature control

Maturation

Exclusively in concrete and steel tanks on the fine lees, avoiding the use of oak to maintain absolute fidelity to the fruit and the variety

blend

As with other blends, Il Coroncino follows our philosophy of finding and combining what works well together, paying particular attention to the grapes from the Contrada Coroncino vineyard with the intention of representing Verdicchio in its essence

a raking of the must

Organoleptic profile

A very variegated nose, characterized by wild herbs, citrus notes of cedar and bergamot, with a light finish of white flowers

Lot of tension on the palate, revealing a lovely sapidity, a light almond and a hint of tannin that envelop the palate, finishing with a lingering fatty sensation

temper

It represents the variety's power translated into agility. It is a wine that doesn't seek "seasoning," but is focused on expressing clarity and verticality

Aging potential: 6 to 10 years and more

Formats: Standard (0.75 l), Magnum (1.5 l) and Jeroboam (3.0 l)

pairings

Its savory and acidic character are perfect for cleansing the palate of rich, structured fish dishes, pairing equally well with traditional white meats, intense truffle-based pasta and risotto dishes, and semi-matured cheeses
